Before and After Photos- A Cheat Sheet

Let's face it. Who doesn't love a good before and after photo? As business owners, artists, parents, and livers of life,  it can be hard to remember to snap a photo before starting a new project. In our business, Brooks is the "on-site" person. He is actually on the job every day and the person who should be photographing along the way. But somehow it seems to take lots of reminders and lots of direction to get a decent and useable photo. So, here are a few tips and tricks that I have come up … [Read more...]

Decorative Painting is Alive and Well at the HGTV Smart Home 2014

I almost can't contain my enthusiasm for the HGTV Smart Home 2014 and their vibrant use of color and pattern. I was honored to be a part of the PR team that worked with builder, Carbine & Associates and was part of a VIP sneak peek of the house for Media and Home Bloggers. The HGTV Smart Home is an English cottage-style residence located in Nashville's Duncanwood Reserve neighborhood. The home is packed with technology to connect the home's appliances and devices, giving the homeowner … [Read more...]

Pretty in Pink- A Stencil Story

Are you looking for a quick way to update a room and add a graphic punch? A stencil might be just the thing. When planning our daughter's room makeover we wanted to keep the furniture and big ticket items she already had like the headboard, the vanity table, zebra hide chair and dresser. After all, we had literally JUST finished making over her old room when we sold our house two years ago. That was the hardest thing about selling that house. Brooks had hand trowelled three layers of venetian … [Read more...]

Have you considered Grey Kitchen Cabinets?

A few years ago I noticed a trend in the shelter magazines and the design blogs I was reading. Golds, beiges and tans were being replaced with whites, shades of grey, soft blues and greens. Around the same time we started to see a huge surge in requests for painted kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. When we painted our own kitchen cabinets, we chose a soft glazed grey. I get a couple of requests a week from people wanting information on how we painted our cabinets. You can read about that … [Read more...]

Later, I moved on to blogs with more personal insight like, Cote de Texas, Miss Mustard Seed, and Southern Hospitality. These days, I am finding some uber talented kindred spirits right here in Music City, USA. I had the chance to meet several of these bloggers in person recently at the … [Read more...]

How to add Style and Character to your New Construction Home

We are very blessed to work with several custom builders in the Nashville area. I always get a kick out of walking through the house during the construction phase with the builders, homeowners and designers because I have absolutely NO VISION at this stage. They point to various open spaces of unframed walls and talk about fireplaces, moldings, doors, breakfast nooks, powder baths, etc.. and I just stand there nodding my head and smiling like a dork. Like I can totally visualize what they are … [Read more...]
