Bathroom Remodeling on a Budget

I'll never forget the first night in our new home. I was so excited to be experiencing all the firsts in the new space. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth before bed and that's when it struck me; our master bath vanity was built for Hobbits. Not that the previous owners were Hobbit-sized. Actually, a 30 inch vanity in the 80's was pretty standard compared to the newer standard of 34 inches tall. I'm 5'9" and Brooks is over 6ft. That extra 4 inches makes a HUGE difference. We spent the … [Read more...]

This Old House Magazine Feature

Have you ever received one of THOSE emails? You know the ones. The ones that makes you stop what you are doing and let out a little scream. A happy scream. And maybe that email even makes you do a little chair dance. Well, I got one of those back in early November from an editor at This Old House Magazine. She had come across my front porch makeover project and wanted to do a feature on it in the March issue. She wanted to know if I had 30 minutes to talk? Why, "yes I do"! And we … [Read more...]

Bella Tucker featured on Apartment Therapy

Over 8 years ago when I first started blogging and showcasing the decorative painting work we were doing I had a dream of being featured on a national website. That dream came true in December when our home was featured on Apartment Therapy. I was introduced to the writer and photographer through a mutual friend. She was fantastic! She made our house look amazing. It was an overall great experience and the fulfillment of a dream. That is until the comments started rolling in on the feature. It … [Read more...]

Artists in Action at Nashville Parade of Homes

We were recently asked to create an aged crumbling concrete wall finish for the 2014 Nashville Parade of Homes at Kings' Chapel. The designers, Kara Blalock and Lauren Blalock (sisters-in-law) had a very clear vision for the home built by Gregg & Rains Builders. The home would have lots of rustic elements like aged barn wood ceilings and a tobacco stick ceiling from the designer's family farm. Kara and Lauren sent us this photo as inspiration for the dining room wall … [Read more...]

Tour Our Home

What an exciting summer! We have been busy with lots of kitchen cabinet painting and decorative painting, but we also have played host to some pretty amazing company. In July we partnered with Forest Home Media to host a group of Nashville Influencers at our home. This is a fun group of Home and Lifestyle Bloggers, Social Media Influencers and members of the Nashville Media. The group is organized to network, share expertise, and use our social media influence to help promote each … [Read more...]

Crowdsourcing and a Front Porch Update

Last week I shared with you the before and after photos of our freshly painted exterior. We are still relishing in the newness of living in a house that you can actually see from the road. It still surprises me when I drive up and makes me grin like a goofball when I turn into the driveway. The brick is not the only thing that received a makeover. We also just finished a front porch update. I knew I wanted something bold for the front door. I narrowed it down to two choice from Modern Masters … [Read more...]

White Painted Brick-Exterior Before and After

White Painted Brick If you are following us on Instagram and Facebook you've probably seen sneak-peeks of our latest project. We have painted the exterior of our home. And this time when I say "we" I DON'T mean Brooks and I. That's the best part of this project. It was completed without either of us raising so much as a paint brush. Funny story; I was contacted by a guy several months ago who owned a painting company. He needed some marketing advice and a new website. I initially told him I was … [Read more...]

Before and After Photos- A Cheat Sheet

Let's face it. Who doesn't love a good before and after photo? As business owners, artists, parents, and livers of life,  it can be hard to remember to snap a photo before starting a new project. In our business, Brooks is the "on-site" person. He is actually on the job every day and the person who should be photographing along the way. But somehow it seems to take lots of reminders and lots of direction to get a decent and useable photo. So, here are a few tips and tricks that I have come up … [Read more...]

I almost can't contain my enthusiasm for the HGTV Smart Home 2014 and their vibrant use of color and pattern. The HGTV Smart Home is an English cottage-style residence located in Nashville's Duncanwood Reserve neighborhood. The home is packed with technology to connect the home's appliances and devices, giving the homeowner … [Read more...]
