Popcorn Ceiling Styrofoam Tiles- 5 Years Later

By Dana Tucker 2 Comments

Five years ago we moved into our dream home. It checked off all the items on our wish list. It had a huge lot (over two acres), a swimming pool, a walk out basement with a huge garage that was perfect for our painting studio. It even came with the perfect neighbors. What it didn’t come with was an updated interior. But we were not deterred. We saw the potential and quickly got to work on making the house our own.

Our Kitchen Makeover

First on the list was an update to the kitchen. Luckily, the previous owners had installed granite countertops, we liked the layout of the kitchen, but the cabinets needed some work. Here’s a post I wrote on our kitchen makeover five years ago.

5 years later they look as good as the day we installed them.

Kitchen updated with painted cabinets and styrofoam ceiling tiles. 5 years later.

We decided to:

  • tear out the soffits
  • build the cabinets to the ceiling
  • frame in the refrigerator
  • paint the cabinets to unify all the changes
  • update the lighting

All these changes left the ceiling a disaster.

Popcorn Ceiling tiles – an easy Fix

We hated the popcorn ceiling. We discussed scraping it, but were looking for a less messy solution. And, since we had gaping holes in the ceiling, we needed patch work done that would be costly and labor intensive. We started looking for solutions that would cover the damage AND THE POPCORN. We found these styrofoam ceiling tiles that were both beautiful and affordable. We installed the whole kitchen for under $500. (affiliate link) FIND THE TILES HERE.

The ceiling tiles are lightweight styrofoam. You can cut them to size with an x-acto knife and they glue up with (affiliate link) adhesive. The ceiling was done in one day!!

When they were first installed we got a ton of questions about whether they would hold up. So I wanted to show you how they look 5 years later.

The painted kitchen cabinets have also held up nicely for 5 years.

Exactly the same, no discoloration, no damage, no adhesion failure.

So, if you are looking for a no-scrape, no-mess, solution for popcorn ceilings, you might want to consider these (affiliate link) STYROFOAM CEILING TILES.
