Our latest project is a great representation of the heart and soul of what we do best. We take an existing kitchen and using the tools at our disposal, we reimagine it in a fresh new way. We eliminate the things that are not working or are out of date. We add back in a refined style, beautifully updated selections, new functionality, and improved work flow.
What didn’t work in this kitchen
Most people looking at the before photos would think, “this is already a beautiful kitchen”. And it was. The biggest issue with this kitchen was the huge 60″ professional range was leaking gas and no one could figure out how to repair it. And the stainless stove hood above it was very industrial looking and not my client’s style. In addition, she wanted to update the backsplash, counters and infuse some color into the kitchen.
What did work in this kitchen
This kitchen had the most beautiful custom wood inset cabinetry. This had to stay. We knew we could make a few cabinetry modifications that would help the functionality but keep the beauty and integrity of the existing cabinets. And after all, paint is the great unifier and we knew we could bridge the old with the new using our professional cabinet painting system.
What we did to update this kitchen
Since the 60″ range was coming out my client opted for a new range top and double ovens. She is a serious home chef and had a preference for wall ovens. With the 60″ range gone, we also had room to build some custom storage for her pots, pans, and spices under the range top. We added the wall ovens to the right of the range top and refigured that side of the cabinets. We also added a custom stove hood and full height porcelain slab backsplash.
The island was also a great opportunity to upgrade the functionality. This is where she does all of her meal prepping, but the small prep sink was not working for her. We installed a Ruvati workstation sink and a pull out trash can so she wouldn’t be running to the other side of the kitchen to prep her meals.
We also swapped out the warming drawer which she never used for a drawer microwave. The pièce de résistance was the gorgeous teacup chandelier crafted of vintage tea cups and silver flatware.
The kitchen windows were such a statement in this kitchen but had a visual block on that side due to the roll up appliance garage and the brown tile backsplash.
We took that out and swapped a door on the right for a glass door and that really visually opened up that wall of cabinets.
We installed a 45″ Ruvati workstation sink under the window. We also replaced the countertops with black leathered granite with a custom sink drying rack cutout.
We replaced the two recessed cans with two beautiful flush mounts and it added so much charm.
Walnut Coffee Station
On the opposite side of the kitchen there was a triangular cabinet with slanted open shelving on each end. It took advantage of the available space, but I knew we could improve on the aesthetics and give it a much needed purpose.
My clients are enthusiastic coffee drinkers and needed a dedicated space for their espresso machine. This cabinet made the perfect coffee bar. We wrapped the cabinet in stained walnut, added doors to the front and sides. Lastly, we installed some gorgeous gold hardware and aged mirrored glass.
We repeated the walnut wood under the cooktop and on the end of the island to add warmth and texture throughout the kitchen.
Painted Kitchen Cabinets
Lastly, we painted the cabinets in two different colors. Farrow & Ball DeNimes for the lower cabinets and Farrow & Ball Shaded White for the uppers.
A beautiful kitchen to start, but a fully updated kitchen that will serve our clients well for the years to come.
