Brentwood Kitchen Re-Design Week 2

By Dana Tucker Leave a Comment

Welcome to the second week of our Brentwood Kitchen Re-design. If you missed last week, you can find that HERE.

So this is the week of the not so pretty. Demo, demo, rough in, rough in.

Did you know that Habitat for Humanity has a deconstruct service? They bring in a team and demo your current kitchen and take the cabinets, countertops, lighting, sinks, faucets, etc back to their Re-Store to sell to the public. My client saved on the demo cost and also got the tax write off. Win-Win. habitat demo habitat demo habitat demo

Once the old island was out of the way, we were able to tape off the new island to make sure it would work. My client has two dishwashers that had to make it into the new island. We tried and tried to work in an extra set of drawers, but in the end we didn’t like the way it looked in the space and decided to leave them out. taped off island taped off island taped off islandHere’s the rendering with the drawer bank that didn’t make the cut. island rendering

The new island will be made of rift sawn oak. I am soooo excited to use this material in a kitchen.

Next, we needed to do the rough in for plumbing and electric. We had to move the plumbing about two feet which meant cutting into the basement ceiling to run the pipes. plumbing plumbing

The electricians worked on moving the outlets out of the backsplash. They will be going up under the counters in the new design. I’ll share more about that in the coming weeks. outletsThey also cut about a bazillion holes in the ceiling to move the lighting around. Luckily the painter is working over the weekend to patch, fill and paint the holes so we can stay on schedule.

We also having someone coming tomorrow to move the central vac under the new kitchen sink location.

So, not a lot (or anything) pretty to show you this week. Next week the new flooring goes in, so hoping for something beautiful to show you soon. We are linking up with the One Room Challenge where there are a couple hundred bloggers all participating in a 6 week room makeover. You can check that out HERE. one room challenge
